ESA IXV Space Vehicle

CIMSA Ingenieria de Sistemas S.A. will be responsible for the water landing system of the IXV space vehicle developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) under the Future Launchers Preparatory Program (FLPP). The prime contractor Thales Alcatel Alenia Space has subcontracted to CIMSA Ingenieria de Sistemas S.A. the floatation system design works for the recovery of the IXV vehicle from the sea, after the atmosphere re-entry and descent phases. The dynamic behaviour of the vehicle during splash down, sea impact and subsequent sinking in water will be predicted by means of advanced finite elements software simulating interaction between solid and fluid structures, in order to design the floatation devices to be installed in the IXV.
